J 28662 Brake Pedal
Effort Gauge
Check the brake pedal travel at frequent intervals. Brake pedal travel
is the distance the brake pedal moves toward the floor from a fully released
position. Make this check with the brakes cold and with tool J 28662
.
- With the engine off, press the brake pedal and release the brake
pedal. Do this five times in order to release vacuum from the vacuum booster.
- Measure the distance (1)
from the bottom of the steering wheel to the brake pedal with the brake pedal
released.
- Apply about 455 N (100 lb) on the brake pedal. Use
the J 28662
.
- Measure the distance (2) from the bottom of the steering wheel
to the brake pedal.
- Subtract the first measurement (1) from the second measurement
(2).
- Compare the difference with the specifications below. If the brake
pedal travel exceeds specifications, refer to
