HVAC Compressor Clutch Does Not Disengage GAS

Important:: Before performing the following diagnostic check and repair any DTC's found stored within the VCM. Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (5.7L) or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (7.4L) in Engine Controls.

Has the HVAC Compressor Controls System Check been performed?

--

Go to Step 2

Go to HVAC Compressor Controls System Check

  1. Turn the Ignition Switch to the Run position.
  2. Remove the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.

Does the compressor clutch disengage?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 3

Connect a DMM (volts) between cavity A6 of the A/C clutch relay socket and ground.

Is voltage greater than the value given?

0.5v

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Locate and repair the short to battery voltage between cavity A6 and the A/C Compressor Clutch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to HVAC Compressor Controls System Check

Replace the A/C Compressor Clutch. Refer to Compressor Clutch Plate/Hub Assembly Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a fused jumper wire between pin A4 of the A/C Relay and battery voltage.
  2. Connect a jumper wire between pin B6 of the A/C Relay and ground.

Does the relay click?

--

Go to Step 8

Replace the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.

Is the repair complete?

--

  1. Turn the Ignition Switch to the Off position.
  2. Connect a DMM (continuity) between cavity B6 of the A/C Relay socket and ground.

Is continuity present?

--

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 10

Locate and repair the short to ground between the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay and cavity 1 of VCM, C3. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to HVAC Compressor Controls System Check

  1. Turn the Ignition Switch to the Run position.
  2. Disconnect the HVAC Control Module, C3.
  3. Connect a DMM (volts) between cavity 25 of VCM C3 and ground.

Is battery voltage present?

--

Go to Step 12

Replace the HVAC Control Module. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement Control Assembly Replacement.

Is the repair complete?

Go to HVAC Compressor Controls System Check

Locate and repair the short to battery voltage between the HVAC Control Module, C3, cavity 10 and VCM, C3, cavity 25. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Has the HVAC Compressor Controls System Check been performed?

  1. Turn the Ignition Switch to the Run position.
  2. Remove the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.

Does the compressor clutch disengage?

--

Go to Step 6

Connect a DMM (volts) between cavity A6 of the A/C clutch relay socket and ground.

Is voltage greater than the value given?

0.5v

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Locate and repair the short to battery voltage between cavity A6 and the A/C Compressor Clutch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the A/C Compressor Clutch. Refer to Compressor Clutch Plate/Hub Assembly Replacement .

  1. Connect a fused jumper wire between pin A4 of the A/C Relay and battery voltage.
  2. Connect a jumper wire between pin B6 of the A/C Relay and ground.

Does the relay click?

Replace the A/C Compressor Clutch Relay.

  1. Turn the Ignition Switch to the Off position.
  2. Connect a DMM (continuity) between cavity B6 of the A/C Relay socket and ground.

Is continuity present?

Go to Step 9

Locate and repair the short to ground between the A/c Compressor Clutch Relay and cavity D5 of PCM C3. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the Ignition Switch to the Run position.
  2. Disconnect the HVAC Control Module, C3.
  3. Connect a DMM (volts) between cavity C2 of PCM C1 and ground.

Is battery voltage present?

Replace the HVAC Control Module. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement Control Assembly Replacement.

Is the repair complete?

Locate and repair the short to battery voltage between the HVAC Control Module, C3, cavity 10 and PCM, C1, cavity C2. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
