Did you perform the OnStar® Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Observe the OnStar® Status LED.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Did the LED turn GREEN.

Did the OnStar® Status LED turn RED?

Did the OnStar® Status LED turn GREEN?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the OnStar® Keypad.
  3. Measure the voltage at the Keypad on the Keypad RED LED Supply Voltage circuit.

Does the Voltage measure near the specified Voltage?

7v-9v

Go to Step 9

Test the Keypad RED LED Supply Voltage circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the OnStar® Keypad.
  3. Measure the voltage at the Keypad on the Keypad GRN LED Supply Voltage circuit.

Does the Voltage measure near the specified Voltage?

7v-9v

Go to Step 9

Test the Keypad GRN LED Supply Voltage circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the OnStar® Button Assembly. Refer to OnStar Button Assembly Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Replace the VIU. Refer to Vehicle Interface Unit and Vehicle Communication Unit Modules Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
