Rear Quarter Molding Replacement Base, Utility

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 34940 .

  1. Remove the rear bumper. Refer to Rear Bumper Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 311543  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolts (3) from the rear quarter molding.
  4. Remove the adhesive from the rear quarter molding.
  5. Remove the rear quarter molding.

  6. Object Number: 311542  Size: SH
  7. Remove the rear quarter molding retainers (1,2) by grinding off the heads of the rivets.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 311542  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear quarter molding upper retainer (1) with three rivets in order from left to right.
  2. Install the rear quarter molding lower retainer (2).
  3. 2.1. Using a rivetgun J 34940 .
    2.2. Install far left rivet.
    2.3. Install far right rivet.
    2.4. Install last two rivets from right to left.
  4. Install the new adhesive to the door lower molding.
  5. Install the rear quarter molding to the vehicle.

  6. Object Number: 311543  Size: SH
  7. Install the bolts (3) to the rear quarter molding.
  8. Install the rear bumper. Refer to Rear Bumper Replacement .

Rear Quarter Molding Replacement Limited Tahoe (Left)

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 519967  Size: SH
  1. Remove the push pins securing the Z-shaped brace brackets (1) from the molding lower.
  2. Remove the three nuts from the inner part of the rear quarter panel securing the rear quarter molding(3).
  3. Remove the molding from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 519967  Size: SH
  1. Install the Z-shaped brace brackets (1) to the Mounting Brace (2).
  2. Install the mounting brace (2) to the rear quarter molding (3).
  3. Install the molding (3) to the vehicle.
  4. Install the two lower push pins into the Z-shaped brackets.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the three mounting nuts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the three mounting nuts to 10 N·m (88.5 lb in).

  8. Ensure proper fit and form to the lower rear quarter panel.

Rear Quarter Molding Replacement Limited Tahoe (Right)

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 519964  Size: SH
  1. Remove the push pins securing the Z-shaped brace brackets (2) from the molding lower.
  2. Remove the three nuts from the inner part of the rear quarter panel securing the rear quarter molding (3)
  3. Remove the molding (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 519964  Size: SH
  1. Install the Z-shaped brace brackets (2) to the Mounting Brace (1).
  2. Install the mounting brace (1) to the rear quarter molding (3).
  3. Install the rear molding (3) to the vehicle.
  4. Install the two lower push pins into the Z-shaped brackets.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.
