Subject: | AFM Hardware Not Included on a Replacement Engine |
Models: | 2007 Cadillac Escalade |
2007 GMC Yukon Denali |
Equipped with the 6.2 L92 engine |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
2007 vehicles equipped with the L92 engine built prior to April 2006 were built with AFM (Active Fuel Management) hardware installed in the engine. The AFM system is not enabled on the 2007 L92 engines. Replacement engines, and vehicles built with the L92 after April 1, 2006 do not contain the AFM hardware.
When performing an engine replacement on a vehicle with an L92 engine that was originally equipped with AFM hardware, a wiring modification must be performed.
Compare the replacement engine to the existing engine. Replacement engines without AFM will have a simple flat engine valley cover without a electrical connector at the rear of the cover. If the existing engine was equipped with Active Fuel Management hardware, continue with the procedure found in this PI.
When replacing a 2007 L92 6.2L engine, the VLOM (valve lifter oil manifold) connector must be removed. Below is a procedure for removing the VLOM connector and sealing the circuits.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
