The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment that they are unable to get the TPM system to learn the new style rubber valve stems using the pressure release method. This may be inconsistent from one tire sensor to the next and one vehicle to the next. If the J-46079 tool is used the learn procedure can be done.
The release of air through the valve stem sets up a resonant vibration frequency that can trick the TPM Sensor into thinking it is in motion. This causes the sensor to transmit multiple pressure update messages, not Sensor ID learn messages. The Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) does not recognize the pressure update messages when it is in a Learn Mode. This will not allow the vehicle to acknowledge the sensor with a horn chirp, and the learn procedure cannot be completed.
For rubber valve stem sensors only, if you have any problems performing a learn procedure using the pressure release method, use the J-46079 tool to perform TPM Learn procedures.
For customers who are unable to perform the learn procedure at home, perform the learn procedure using the J-46079 tool and advise that engineering is working on a fix and parts to correct this condition will be available in the future.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
