  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  2. Using a scan tool, monitor current DTCs in the body control module (BCM).

Does the scan tool display and current BCM DTCs?

Monitor the BCM chime input data display.

Does the scan tool display any chime input data?

With the ignition OFF, monitor the BCM chime output data display.

Does the scan tool display head lamp data?

With the driver's door open and the ignition in the OFF position, monitor the BCM chime output data display.

  1. Verify the turn signal switch is off.
  2. Disconnect the BCM connector connecting the turn signal feeds.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the LH front turn signal lamp feed or between RH front turn signal lamp feed and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate??

Repair the short to battery voltage on the left or right turn signal feed between the BCM and the turn/hazard switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Verify the headlamp and panel dimmer switch is off.
  3. Disconnect the headlamp relay (located in the engine wiring harness junction block).

Does the chime stop sounding?

Replace the headlamp relay.

  1. Disconnect the headlamp and panel dimmer switch connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between headlamp relay feed and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Replace the headlamp and the panel dimmer switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.

Locate and repair the short to battery voltage on the headlamp relay feed between the headlamp and panel dimmer switch and the BCM.

Is the repair complete?

Using a fused jumper wire, jump across the seatbelt switch connector.

Repair the open on the seatbelt switch signal circuit between seat belt switch and the BCM, or the inflatable restraint sensing and the diagnostic module and the BCM. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  3. Disconnect the in-line connector at the base of the steering column.

Does the chime stop sounding?

Replace the key-in ignition switch on the steering column.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the short to ground in the key ignition switch signal circuit between the in-line connector and BCM. If no open is found, replace the BCM.
