Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side with RPO NYS

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Remove the park brake cable from the equalizer by pulling down on the intermediate cable and release the cable from the equalizer bar.

  5. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  6. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  7. Object Number: 366864  Size: SH
  8. Remove the park brake cable from the differential clip.
  9. Remove the bolt retaining the park brake cable from the rear axle clip.


    Object Number: 791768  Size: SH
  10. Remove the rear brake cable mounting bracket bolt.

  11. Object Number: 791352  Size: SH
  12. Remove the brake cable from the lever.

  13. Object Number: 791822  Size: SH
  14. Remove the cable (2) from the rear brake cable mounting bracket (3) by depressing the locking tabs (1) on the brake cable.

  15. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  16. Remove the brake cable from the guides and the body mounts.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 791822  Size: SH
  1. Install the new brake cable (2) into the rear brake cable mounting bracket (3) by pushing the cable into place until the locking tabs (1) snap into place.

  2. Object Number: 791352  Size: SH
  3. Install the park brake cable to the lever.

  4. Object Number: 791768  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the rear park brake cable bracket bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rear park brake cable bracket bolt to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  7. Install the park brake cable to the differential clip.
  8. Install the park brake cable bolt to the rear axle clip.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake cable bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the park brake cable taking care to correctly route the cable though the guides and the body mounts.
  11. Install the park brake cable into the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.

  12. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  13. Install the park brake cable to the equalizer bar.
  14. Remove the safety stands.
  15. Lower the vehicle.

Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side without RPO NYS

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1471613  Size: SH
  1. Ensure that the park brake is released.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the first design cable, perform the following:
  4. 3.1. Relieve tension on the park brake cables by pulling down on the front park brake cable (1) just in front of the equalizer.
    3.2. Remove the left rear park brake cable (3) from the equalizer bar.
    3.3. Remove the park brake cable from the frame bracket and guides.

  5. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the second design or a 2500 series, perform the following:
  6. 4.1. Relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and removing the cable from the equalizer bar.
    4.2. Disconnect the cable from the equalizer.

  7. Remove the bolt from the rear axle clip.
  8. Remove the cable from the differential clip.

  10. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  12. Remove the cable from the left and right side cable guides (15 series).
  13. Remove the cable from the track bar clips.

  14. Object Number: 555945  Size: SH
  15. Remove the cable from the lever (25 series).
  16. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  17. Remove the cable from the retaining bracket.
  18. Remove the cable.

  20. Remove the cable from the lever (15 series).
  21. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  22. Remove the cable from the retaining bracket.
  23. Remove the cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 555746  Size: SH
  1. Install the cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
  2. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place (15 series).
  3. Attach the cable to the lever.

  4. Object Number: 555945  Size: SH
  5. Install the cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
  6. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place (25 series).
  7. Attach the cable to the lever.

  8. Object Number: 555750  Size: SH
  9. Install the cable to the track bar and secure with the clips. Verify that the clips are installed between the locators on the track bar (15 series).
  10. Install the cable to the right and left side guides.

  12. Install the cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.

  13. Object Number: 366864  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   14. Bolt the cable to the differential (clips).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Important: After installing the cable to the rear axle holding clip, verify that clip is securely retaining the cable. If not, crimp the clip by hand taking care not to pinch or kink the cable.

  16. Install the cable to the differential clip.

  18. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the second design or a 2500 series, install the park brake cable to the equalizer bar by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and installing the cable to the equalizer bar.

  19. Object Number: 1471613  Size: SH
  20. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the first design cable, perform the following:
  21. 13.1. Install the park brake cable through the frame bracket and guides.
    13.2. Install the left rear park brake cable (3) from the equalizer bar.
  22. Remove the safety stands.
  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
