The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment on a grind noise, vibration and or a leak from the rear of the transmission. Inspection of the transmission may show that the extension bushing is loose or has spun out of the extension housing.

Recommendation/Instructions:

A loose or spun extension housing slip yoke bushing (35) may be caused by missing lube holes in the output shaft. If the extension bushing is loose in the extension housing or has spun out of the extension housing, the transmission assembly should be replaced. Please contact your DVM for approval to replace the transmission if the above concern is found.

Important Note:  DO NOT replace the transmission for an extension oil seal leak if the bushing is still solidly pressed into the extension housing.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
