Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
ā¢ | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
ā¢ | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
ā¢ | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
Caution: Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following
parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:
ā¢ | The seat cushion frame |
ā¢ | The seat recliner, if equipped |
Failure to do so may cause future personal injury.
- Disable the
SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
.
- Remove the front seat. Refer to
Front Seat Replacement - Bucket
in Seats.
- Remove the seat back cover. Refer to
Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement
in Seats.
- Remove the retaining bolts (3) that attach the inflatable
restraint side impact module (1) to the seat frame.
- Remove the side impact module retainer.
- Remove the retaining clips
to the side impact module wiring harness from the seat frame (3).
Important: Note the routing of the side impact module wiring harness (2)
and the retaining clips within the seat frame (3). Route the wiring
harness (2) exactly the same way as the factory to eliminate the possibility
of any cutting or chafing of the wiring harness.
- Remove the side impact module wiring harness (2) from the
seat frame (3).
- Remove the side impact module (1) from the seat frame (3).
Installation Procedure
- Install the wiring harness (2)
for the inflatable restraint side impact module to the seat frame (3).
Guide the wiring harness through the appropriate spots on the seat frame.
- Install the retaining clips for the side impact module wiring
harness to the seat frame.
- Install the side impact
module (1) to the seat frame.
- Install the side impact module retainer.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the side impact module retaining bolts (3).
Tighten
Use only hand tools to tighten the bolts to 10 NĀ·m (89 lb in).
- Install the seat back cover. Refer to
Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement
in Seats.
- Install the front seat. Refer to
Front Seat Replacement - Bucket
in Seats.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
.
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced
under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required
retention period. Refer to
Inflator Module Handling, Shipping, and Scrapping
.
