Connector Removal Tool
Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Remove the air intake tube.
- Remove the heater and surge tank hoses from the mounting clip.
- Disconnect the heater hose quick connect fittings.

4.3. | Release the retainer tabs. |
4.4. | Pull the connection apart. |
- Remove the outlet heater hose from the radiator.
- Remove the outlet heater
hose (1).
Installation Procedure
- Install the outlet heater
hose (1).
- Install the outlet heater hose to the radiator.
- Connect the heater and
surge tank hoses to the heater core.
Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear
an audible click.
- Install the heater and surge tank hoses to the mounting clip.
- Install the air intake tube.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to
Loss of Coolant
in Engine Cooling.

Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Remove the air intake tube.
- Remove the heater and surge tank hoses from the mounting clip.
- Disconnect the heater hose quick connect fittings.

4.3. | Release the retainer tabs. |
4.4. | Pull the connection apart. |
- Remove the outlet heater
hose nut (2) from the engine.
Discard the nut.
- Remove the outlet heater hose bolt (3) from the engine.
Discard the bolt.
- Remove the auxiliary outlet heater hose if equipped.
- Remove the outlet heater hose from the outlet pipe assembly.
- Remove the heater hose.
Installation Procedure
- Install the outlet heater hose.
- Install the outlet heater hose to the outlet pipe assembly.
- Install the auxiliary outlet heater hose if equipped.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the NEW
outlet heater hose nut (2) and bolt (3) to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the nut and bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Connect the heater and
surge tank hoses to the heater core.
Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear
an audible click.
- Install the heater and surge tank hoses to the mounting clip.
- Install the air intake tube.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to
Loss of Coolant
in Engine Cooling.

Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Remove the air intake tube.
- Using the J 43181
disconnect the heater hoses from the
heater core inlet and outlet.
3.1. | Install the J 43181
to the heater core pipes. |
3.2. | Close the tool around the heater core pipes. |
3.3. | Firmly pull the tool into the quick connect end of the heater
hose. |
3.4. | Firmly grasp the heater hose. Pull the heater hose forward in
order to disengage the hose from the heater core. |
- Disconnect the heater hose quick connect fittings.

4.3. | Release the retainer tabs. |
4.4. | Pull the connection apart. |
- Remove the outlet heater
hose mounting bolt.
- Remove the outlet heater hose from the water pump.
- Remove the heater hoses.
Installation Procedure
- Install the heater hoses.
- Install the outlet heater
hose to the engine water pump.

hose mounting bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the mounting bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the inlet heater
hose to the engine.
- Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear
an audible click.
- Install the air intake tube.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to
Loss of Coolant
in Engine Cooling.

- Remove the heater hose.

- Install the heater hose.
- Install the heater hose
to the water pump.
- Connect the heater and surge tank hoses to the heater core.
Firmly push the quick connect onto the heater core pipe until you hear
an audible click.
- Install the heater and surge tank hoses to the mounting clip.
- Install the air intake tube.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
- Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Refer to

in Engine Cooling.
