Tire inflation pressures that exceed the vehicle's tire
placard recommendation may contribute to a harsh ride. This has been reported
on a number of vehicles. It is not uncommon for the assembly plants to inflate
the tires beyond the tire placard specification to ensure proper tire bead-to-wheel
seating.
Tire inflation (including the spare) MUST be set to the vehicle's recommended
tire placard pressure during Pre-Delivery Inspection. This operation is currently
part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection procedure, as stated on the checklist,
for which dealers are compensated.
The recommended cold tire inflation pressures can be found on the tire
placard, located on the driver's door edge. Always refer to the tire placard
for correct pressures. Similar vehicles can have different recommended pressures
depending on the option content of the vehicle. Tire pressure inspection and
adjustments should always be made when the tires are cold.
Important: Do not inflate tires to the maximum pressure indicated on the tire sidewall.
This pressure is a tire manufacturer specification and may not correlate
with the GM tire pressures determined to provide the optimum performance in
the following areas:
• | Tire wear characteristics |
On vehicles that have a different tire inflation pressure for the front
and rear tires, a pressure adjustment will be necessary after rotation of
the tires.
In addition to adversely affecting the ride characteristics of a vehicle,
improper tire inflation can also affect the following areas:
