Endgate Handle Replacement Utilities

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .
  3. Remove actuator cable assembly from handle.
  4. Remove the nuts from the back of the endgate behind the handle assembly.

  5. Object Number: 570288  Size: SH
  6. Remove the handle assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 570288  Size: SH
  1. Install the handle assembly into the endgate.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the nuts onto the handle assembly from the back of the endgate.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the actuator cable assembly to the handle.
  6. Install the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .

Endgate Handle Replacement Avalanche

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the endgate handle bezel. Refer to Endgate Adjustment .
  2. Release the endgate handle linkage rod retainers. Refer to Endgate Adjustment .

  3. Object Number: 827109  Size: SH
  4. Remove the 3 bolts (1) that retain the handle to the endgate.
  5. Remove the endgate spoiler. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement .
  6. Remove the handle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Set the handle in position in the endgate.

  2. Object Number: 827109  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   3. Install the 3 bolts (1) that retain the handle to the endgate.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m(18 lb ft).

  5. Install the endgate spoiler. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement .
  6. Reattach the handle linkage rods and adjust the endgate latch. Refer to Endgate Adjustment .
  7. Reattach the endgate handle bezel. Refer to Endgate Adjustment .
