When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

DVD-based Navigation system Information

Recommendation/Instructions:

The available onboard DVD-based Navigation system* uses GPS (global positioning satellite) to pinpoint your vehicle's location. Bright, clear graphics are conveniently displayed for you on the instrument panel, which takes the place of the regular sound-system control panel.

The screen features a light-gray background in daylight that automatically switches to a dark grey background at night for optimum readability. Five dedicated controls along the left side of the screen control the navigation system. Four switches to the right of the screen operate the sound system in conjunction with screen-displayed controls. Information is on a single DVD. No need to swap discs when traveling.

Various navigation features can be personalized for up to three different drivers. Map displays may be either "north up" or from the driver's perspective with the direction of "travel up." Vehicles offer voice prompts in two languages -- English and French. You may select various screen settings, destination locations and route-planning methods to obtain either turn-by-turn guidance to a destination** or map assistance. Voice prompts are high-quality recordings that alert you in the turn-by-turn mode. Thirty memory points can be held in memory for each driver, or a touch point on the map can identify the desired end of a trip.

Getting started:

This will help the new user become familiar with the navigation radio. Buttons on the left side of the radio are used to access main menus. Buttons on the right side of the radio change function depending on the menu chosen. The control pad on the bottom left is used to select items on the screen. The screen to the right of the control pad will show what movements are available to the control pad. Pushing the control pad serves as an enter key.

Setting a station preset:

  1. Turn the radio on by pressing the "power" VOL button (if not already on).
  2. Push the "BAND" button to select a desired band. This will cycle through AM/FM1/FM2 and if equipped XM1/XM2.
  3. Use either the control pad or the "seek" rocker to tune to a station.
  4. Press and hold one of the 6 buttons on the right hand side of the radio until you hear a beep or see the station displayed next to the button pushed.

Setting your geographical area and a navigation destination:

  1. Turn the radio on by pressing the "power" VOL button (if not already on).
  2. Insert a map disk into the radio CD slot.
  3. A notice may appear, use the control pad to enter the highlighted "NEXT" box by pushing the control pad.
  4. Push the DEST key.
  5. Use the control pad to highlight and enter the "Change" box on the right.
  6. Determine if your geographical area is selected. If it is not use the control pad to select and enter your area.
  7. Use the control pad to select and enter the "Address" box.
  8. Use the control pad to select and enter the name of your street. Note that the radio uses a smart speller to assist you. Use the back arrow to correct any mis-spellings.
  9. The radio may provide you a list of streets that match your entry. Use the control pad to select and enter the proper one.
  10. Use the control pad to enter in the street address.
  11. The radio may provide you a list of cities that match your entry. Use the control pad to select and enter the proper one.
  12. Press the "Add" button. This will calculate the fastest route. You can either enter into guidance mode by pushing the map button on the upper right or you can view and select alternative routes by using the control pad.

Tips:

  1. Pushing one of the hard keys on the left side of the radio will always bring you back to a top level menu.
  2. Once a route is set it will remain until it is reached or it is canceled. Note that you can stop along the way and return to the vehicle and will still be in guidance mode.
  3. While navigating you can push the control pad to bring up a menu that will allow you to cancel the route.
  4. The FASTEST selection will choose main roads for travel. The SHORTEST selection will route you with all the shortcuts.
  5. After selecting the NAV mode, pushing the Menu button allows you to setup the map appearance, adjust the volume of the voice prompts, and many other features.
  6. The CD button allows you to select the internal CD player, the external CD changer (if equipped) or a control screen for rear seat entertainment (if equipped). Note that you cannot play a CD in the internal CD player and have route guidance at the same time.
  7. The AUDIO button allows you to adjust balance, fade, bass, treble as well as the amplifier DSP settings.
  8. The CONFIG button allows you to adjust the brightness and contrast of the main screen. You can also override the vehicle selection of day or night screen mode.
  9. A useful feature is to add several common or planned destinations as memory points from the NAV menu. Then when you wish to navigate to one of these points you can select it as a memory point from the destination entry screen.
  10. A scroll bar on the left part of the screen indicates that there are more items that can be displayed by using the control pad.
