The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may state that the Drivers Information Center (DIC) displays a "Service Power Steering" message. Upon further inspection a diagnostic code C0460 may also be present in the Power Steering Control Module. This condition usually occurs when the steering wheel angle is offset 360 degrees and the vehicle is subjected to extreme cold or hot conditions.
To resolve this concern, please update the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) with the latest software calibration that is available through TIS-2-Web. Once completed, clear all DTCs in the power steering control module and then perform the Steering Position/Torque Sensor Calibration procedure. This procedure is listed under the power steering control module in the Tech 2 special function screen.
Note: Please do not replace any components on the vehicle as this will not resolve the concern.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
