Problem

Action

DEFINITION: The vehicle front wheel shimmies or shakes while driving on a smooth road.

The tire and the wheel are out of balance.

Balance the tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Balancing in Vibration Diagnosis and Correction.

The tire and the wheel are out of round.

Inspect the runout. Refer to Tire and Wheel Runout Specifications in Vibration Diagnosis and Correction.

There are worn wheel bearings.

Replace the wheel bearing and hub assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Front Suspension.

There are worn ball joints.

Replace the ball joints.

    • For the upper ball joint, refer to Upper Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
    • For the lower ball joint, refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.

There is a malfunctioning shock absorber.

Inspect and replace the shock absorber if needed. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement in Front Suspension.
