Circuit Description

When the traction assist switch is pressed, the switch momentarily grounds the traction control switch signal circuit. The EBCM then turns the traction control system on or off.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The traction assist switch is detected as pressed for 10 seconds.
    • The criteria for changing the status of the traction control automatic engagement feature are not being met.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The TRACTION OFF indicator is commanded on.
    • The Traction Control is disabled for as long as the malfunction is present.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • Repair the condition(s) responsible for setting the DTC.
    • Use a scan tool in order to clear the DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

Damaged insulation on the traction control switch signal circuit wiring may allow the wiring to contact ground and set DTC C0283 intermittently. The DTC may also set if the procedure to program the traction control automatic engagement feature is performed incorrectly.

  1. Use a scan tool in order to clear the DTC(s).
  2. Turn the ignition OFF.
  3. Turn the ignition ON and wait approximately 20 seconds.

Does the DTC set?

    • Inspect the traction assist switch for signs of physical damage.
    • Press the switch several times and observe the switch actuation.

Is the switch free of damage and able to mechanically actuate without binding?

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTC.
  2. Turn the ignition OFF.
  3. Disconnect the traction assist switch harness connector.
  4. Turn the ignition ON and wait approximately 20 seconds.

Test the traction control switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the EBCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the Tire Size Calibration procedure.

Replace the EBCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement .
