Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle Floor Shift

Tools Required

J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture


    Object Number: 415299  Size: SH
  1. Install the upper trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Screw the 2 TORX® head screws (1) into the upper trim cover (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 TORX® head screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  5. Install the lower trim cover onto the upper trim cover in the following way:
  6. 3.1. Match the tab slots on the lower trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper trim cover.
    3.2. Tilt the lower trim cover up.
    3.3. Slide the lower trim cover forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.

  7. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) into the lower trim cover (2).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  9. Install the tilt lever into the lower trim cover.

  10. Object Number: 415301  Size: SH
  11. Remove the steering column and J 41352 from the vise.

    Object Number: 419648  Size: SH
  1. Install the shift lever seal (2) onto the shift lever assembly (4).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   3. Install the shift lever assembly (4) and secure it with the shift lever screw (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  5. Install the upper trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
  6. Screw the 2 TORX® head screws (1) into the upper trim cover (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 TORX® head screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  8. Slide the shift lever seal onto the upper trim cover.

  10. Install the lower trim cover onto the upper trim cover.
  11. Match the tab slots on the lower trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper trim cover.
  12. Tilt the lower trim cover up.
  13. Align the shift lever seal into the trim covers.
  14. Slide the lower trim cover forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.

  15. Object Number: 415298  Size: SH
  16. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) into the lower trim cover (2).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  18. Install the tilt lever into the lower trim cover.

  19. Object Number: 415301  Size: SH
  20. Remove the steering column and J 41352 from the vise.

Tools Required

    • J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture
    • J 42640 Steering Column Anti Rotation Pin

    Object Number: 419648  Size: SH
  1. Install the shift lever seal (2) onto the shift lever assembly (4).
  2. Install the shift lever assembly (4) and secure it with the shift lever screw (3).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.     Tighten
    Tighten the shift lever screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  4. Install the upper trim cover (2) onto the steering column.
  5. Screw the 2 TORX® head screws (1) into the upper trim cover (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 TORX® head screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  7. Slide the shift lever seal onto the upper trim cover.

  9. Install the lower trim cover onto the upper trim cover.
  10. Match the tab slots on the lower trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper trim cover.
  11. Tilt the lower trim cover up.
  12. Align the shift lever seal into the trim covers.
  13. Slide the lower trim cover forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.

  14. Object Number: 415298  Size: SH
  15. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) into the lower trim cover (2).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  17. Install the tilt lever into the lower trim cover.

  18. Object Number: 415301  Size: SH
  19. Remove J 42640 from the lower trim cover of the steering column.
  20. Remove the steering column and J 41352 from the vise.
