Schematic Reference: Headlights/Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Schematics

Did you perform the Lighting Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

1. Ensure the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position.
2. Ensure the ambient light sensor is not covered or has no obstruction to daylight.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 4

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Remove and inspect the IGN E and the daylight running lamps (DRL) fuses.

Is either fuse open?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

1. Replace the fuse(s) as necessary.
2. Test the DRL relay output circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 6

1. Install the fuses.
2. Remove the DRL relay.
3. Using the J 35616 adaptor, connect a fused jumper wire between the fused battery positive circuit and the DRL relay output circuit at the relay socket.

Does the DRL illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 9

1. Using the J 35616 adaptor, connect a test lamp between the fused ignition positive voltage circuit and the DRL relay control circuit.
2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
3. With the scan tool, command the daylight running lamps (DRL) relay on.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 10

Repair the open in the DRL relay control circuit between the engine wiring harness junction block and the BCM. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring System.

If no open is found, replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

1. Inspect DRL lamp(s) for open filaments. Replace the lamps as needed.
2. Repair the open in the DRL relay output circuit between the engine wiring harness junction block and the component(s) or the open DRL ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Replace the DRL relay. Refer to Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Relay Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
