For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Grasp the caliper and try to move the caliper up-down and forward-reverse relative to the caliper mounting bracket. Remove and inspect the caliper assembly if excessive looseness is noted. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement or Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .
  2. Using a C-clamp, force the brake pads together. Grasp the caliper and move the caliper along the caliper slide pins. If the caliper does not slide smoothly with minimal force inspect the caliper slide pins and the dust boot/caliper slide pin support bushing.
  3. Inspect the caliper slide pin bolts for cracks or corrosion. Do not attempt to polish away corrosion; replace the caliper slide pin bolts.

  5. Inspect the dust boot/caliper slide pin support bushing. If any nicks, cuts, tears, or hardening is noted replace the dust boot/caliper slide pin support bushing.
  6. Inspect the caliper piston dust boots. If any nicks, cuts, tears, or hardening is found the caliper must be overhauled. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Overhaul or Rear Brake Caliper Overhaul .
  7. Inspect the caliper for signs of fluid leakage. If fluid leakage is detected the caliper must be overhauled. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Overhaul or Rear Brake Caliper Overhaul .
