Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement RWD

Removal Procedure

    Notice: Never place vehicle on the ground with the halfshaft removed or the halfshaft nut torqued improperly. Otherwise, bearing seals may become dislodged causing premature wear and/or damage to the hub and bearing assembly.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Remove the wheel speed sensor and brake hose mounting bracket bolt from the steering knuckle.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connection for the wheel speed sensor. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement in Anti-Lock brakes.

  7. Remove the hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts (15 Series).

  8. Object Number: 371077  Size: SH
  9. Remove the hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts (25 Series).
  10. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  11. Remove the O-ring seal from the steering knuckle bore (25 Series).
  12. Clean and inspect the O-ring seal (25 Series).
  13. Replace the seal if the following conditions exist:
  14. • Nicks
    • Cuts
    • Dry or brittle
    • Compression set

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean all corrosion or contaminates from the steering knuckle bore and the hub and bearing assembly.
  2. Install the O-ring to the steering knuckle (25 Series).
  3. Lubricate the steering knuckle bore with wheel bearing grease or the equivalent.
  4. Install the hub and bearing assembly.

  5. Object Number: 371033  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts (15 Series).
  7. Install the hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts (25 Series).

    Tighten
    Tighten the hub to knuckle bolts to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).

  8. Connect the electrical connection for the wheel speed sensor. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement in Anti-Lock brakes.
  9. Install the wheel speed sensor and brake hose mounting bracket bolt to the steering knuckle.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  11. Install the rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement .
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Remove the safety stands.
  14. Lower the vehicle .

Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement 4WD

Removal Procedure

  6. Disengage the front drive halfshaft assembly. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Front Drive Axle.

  8. Remove the hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts (15 Series).

  9. Object Number: 371077  Size: SH
  10. Remove the hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts (25 Series).
  11. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  12. Remove the O-ring seal from the steering knuckle bore (25 Series).

  15. Lower the vehicle .
