Subject: | IPC Gauges Inoperative at Times While Cranking |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
When starting the vehicle (not while driving), the gauges (speedo, tach, oil pressure, volt, fuel, temp, trans temp) will be inoperative. The dic, prndl, and indicator lights will operate normal.
When this situation occurs, you still will be l able to communicate with the IPC with the Tech 2. The data list will show readings are correct, but the displayed reading will all read zero. You will also be able to swing the gauges with the Tech 2. Using the fluke meter (J 39200) on peak min/max monitor ckt 4540 at the IPC connector terminal b11. Voltage should be 8 volts or greater during cranking. If low voltage is found, it could be caused by a weak battery or one with a bad cell. Perform visual inspections of the battery connections to verify a clean, tight electrical contact between the battery post and the battery cable. If a weak battery condition is suspected perform a battery test using the current battery testing procedures (Midtronic's tester). If everything checks okay, proceed with performing Bulletin 03-08-49-020 for reprogramming the IPC.
