Subject:Rub or Squeak Noise While Turning at Slow Speeds (Replace Steering Shaft Front of Dash Boot Seal)

Models:2007 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe
2007 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali, Yukon Denali XL

Condition

Some customers may comment on a rub or squeak noise heard when turning the steering wheel at slow speeds.

Cause

The steering intermediate shaft may make contact with the steering column to front of dash boot seal. This contact can make an audible squeak noise.

Correction

Important: For vehicles built between and including VIN breakpoints 7R100001 - 7R100427 (Arlington) and 7J100001 - 7J100141 (Janesville), refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 06-02-35-003 for information on shimming the lower steering column mounting locations, which should be performed in addition to replacing the boot seal on the vehicles built within the VIN breakpoints.

Replace the front of dash boot seal. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Seal Replacement in SI and use the new part number listed in the Parts Information section. The new boot seal is similar to the current boot seal; however, it has a larger outside diameter to accommodate intermediate shaft orientation.
