The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customer may be unable to lower the spare tire from underneath the vehicle. It was discovered that the spare tire may become stuck to the frame wax coating. The spare tire hoist is designed so that it will not extend unless the weight of a tire is on the cable. So the concern appears to be the hoist is inoperative, when in fact the tire is stuck to the frame.
Recommendation/Instructions:
The correction for this concern would be to remove the tire (gently pry the tire loose from the frame), clean the frame of the frame wax coating in the area were the tire contacts the frame and apply a paint to prevent corrosion. Allow enough time for the paint to dry before reinstalling the tire.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
