Did you perform the OnStar® Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Observe the OnStar® status LED.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.

Did the LED turn from RED to GREEN.

Did the OnStar® status LED turn RED first?

Did the OnStar® status LED turn GREEN?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the OnStar® keypad.
  3. Measure the voltage at the keypad on the keypad RED LED supply voltage circuit.

Does the voltage measure near the specified voltage?

7v-9v

Go to Step 9

Test the keypad RED LED supply voltage circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the OnStar® keypad.
  3. Measure the voltage at the keypad on the keypad GRN LED supply voltage circuit.

Does the voltage measure near the specified voltage?

7v-9v

Test the keypad GRN LED supply voltage circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the OnStar® button assembly. Refer to OnStar Button Assembly Replacement .

Replace the vehicle interface unit (VIU). Refer to OnStar Vehicle Interface Unit Replacement .
