Info -6.5L Diesel Product Changes for the 2000 Model Year

This bulletin is to inform dealers of changes to the 6.5 L diesel engine for the 2000 model year. A new design glow plug, P/N 12563554, will be used in all 6.5 L engines nationwide. In addition, a new glow plug relay will be used on 6.5 L diesel Express and Savana (G) models sold in California only. The engine vacuum pump also is equipped with a belt routing shield.

The revised glow plug, which will be used on all 2000 model 6.5 L diesel engines, has been designed for enhanced durability, and allows for increased glow plug calibration ON TIME for better cold starts and smoke control. The new glow plug has the word BERU etched on the plug body and replaces the 11G model used previously. The BERU glow plug can be used to service all prior 1982-1993 6.2 L and 1992-2000 6.5 L diesel engines.

Notice: The new model BERU glow plug must be used for service on all 2000 model 6.5 L engines. The model 11G plug should not be used in a 2000 model 6.5 L.

All Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana 6.5 L diesel models sold in California will be equipped with a new glow plug system relay. This relay provides for enhanced diagnostic capability of the glow plug system.

The engine vacuum pump is equipped with a belt routing shield to assist in proper routing of the belt during vehicle assembly. Service replacement vacuum pumps will not have this shield.
