This PI has been updated to advise you that the engineering Investigation has ended. There is no longer a need to contact engineering if you experience a vehicle with a windshield that is cracked or distorted.
The following Information was recorded as a result of the Investigation.
Stress cracks coming from the base of the ISRVM (inside rear view mirror), were caused by supplier quality problems. Supplier implemented process changes on 4/15/07
Stress cracks coming up from the cowl or in from the side pillars were caused by supplier quality problems. Supplier implemented process changes on 5/12/07. This was the majority of the stress crack problems.
Defects trapped between layers of glass were caused by supplier quality problems. All changes implemented by 4/20/07
Perceived distortion in windshields - objects seem to jump or stretch up/down across horizontal lines. Degree of distortion varies, depending upon draw line location in glass, and driver's personal perception of optics. Evaluation and implementation of optics enhancements are in-progress. No repairs have been performed yet.
If you experience a vehicle that has a cracked windshield that was built after May 30, 2007. Please take a photo of the effected area and make a product report as per bulletin: 02-00-89-002F.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
