The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may state that the XM radio is inoperative at times or the XM tab/band is missing from the radio screen at times. This concern may be caused by a customer installed aftermarket iPod™ interface module located between the radio and the
XM receiver. See Examples below.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If you receive a complaint from the customer that the XM tab/band is missing or the XM radio is inoperative, check behind the radio and at the XM receiver for any aftermarket wiring before replacing any XM radio components. Close scrutiny is critical because
the aftermarket iPod can be positioned at the top of the dash in a very indiscreet location. The connector to the XM receiver may easily be mistaken as an OEM component when in fact, it is actually part of the iPod™ module and serves as a jumper to the
interface box and the radio.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
