The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

As part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts, the 145 amp Generator (RPO KG3) will be placed on restriction through the PQC to assist GM Engineering with product feedback. Your cooperation with this program is greatly appreciated.

Effective Monday, August 11, 2008 the following part numbers will be restricted:

P/N 25968616

P/N 25869451

Recommendation/Instructions:

If proper diagnosis has led to the replacement of the Generator, please complete the following questionnaire before contacting the PQC at 1-866-654-7654.

Generator (RPO KG3) Questionnaire

1. Customer Concern:

Does the concern involve a voltmeter fluctuation condition on a full-size truck or utility? If yes, has technician reviewed TSB 07-06-03-009A?

Does the concern involve a camper/trailer battery charging condition on a full-size truck or utility? If yes, has technician reviewed TSB 07-06-03-009A?

Does the concern involve an intermittent no crank and/or discharged battery condition on a full-size truck or utility? If yes, has the technician reviewed PIT4613A?

Does the concern involve a broken T-bolt on the negative and/or positive battery cable terminal on a full-size truck or utility? If yes, has the technician reviewed TSB 07-06-03-005?

Does the concern involve a low voltage display (if equipped with gauges), lights that dim at stop lights, slow cranking, no start, low generator output at idle or dim lights at idle on any GM car or light duty truck? If yes, has technician reviewed TBS 02-06-03-008D?

2. List all DTCs:

3. Using a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM), what is the battery voltage with the engine off?

4. Using a DVOM, what is the battery voltage with the engine running?

5. Using a DVOM, what is the battery voltage at the generator battery post with the engine running?

6. Perform the following check at room temperature with the battery charged to at least 13 Volts. Connect a carbon pile tester to the battery and then apply a 100 Amp electrical load. What is the maximum generator output?

7. Have all electrical connections at the generator been checked?

8. What SI documents have been used? List Doc ID number(s):

9. Document each step of the trouble chart (include all DVOM readings/comments):

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
