The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some owners may comment on any of the following concerns: high speed wipers inoperative, power door locks/windows inoperative, radio does not turn off when driver's door is opened, dome lamps are always on, door ajar message is always on the DIC, hazard flashers stay on or won't turn on, front fog lamps inoperative, high/low beam select switch inoperative, "tow haul" telltale always illuminated or won't illuminate, and/or the headlights will not turn on or off when requested by the manual headlamp switch. These concerns may be due to internal BCM damage. The damage to the BCM may have been caused by an electrical spike from the wiper system when the wiper motor is turned off.

All vehicles will have the following symptom: Wipers do not park in the correct location. If the vehicle experiences the wipers parking in the wrong location, as well as, one or more of the above symptoms perform the Recommended repair below. If the vehicle only has the symptom with the wipers not parking in the correct location, with none of the above symptoms, perform the "Windshield Wiper System Malfunction" Diagnostic in SI. If the SI diagnostic leads to replacing the BCM then also complete the repair below. If the SI diagnostic does not lead to BCM replacement then disregard this information and continue to follow the SI diagnostic.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To correct this concern relocate the wiper motor park switch ground circuit as follows:

1. Access the wiper motor connector located under the cowl cover following the SI procedure "Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement"

2. Disconnect the wiper motor connector and remove any tape/conduit 3 to 4 inches from the connector end.

3. Locate and cut circuit 1851 (pin 2 Black/White wire) approximately 2" from the wiper motor connector.

4. Using 18 gauge (0.8 metric) Black wire, route new park switch ground circuit through the front of dash grommet (1).

5. Using a Salmon Duraseal splice sleeve (Doc ID 303648), splice the new wire onto circuit 1851 terminal 2 that is still attached to the wiper motor connector. Use electrical tape to tape and secure the other cut end of circuit 1851 into the wiper motor harness.

6. Reinstall any tape/conduit removed in step 2 and reconnect the wiper motor connector. Attach the new park switch ground circuit along side the wiper motor harness using zip ties or electrical tape, up to the front of dash grommet.

7. Cut the other end of the new park switch ground circuit long enough to reach the new ground location shown below (2).

8. Install the appropriate size ring terminal to the wire and attach to the ground stud (2) using the existing nut.

9. Reinstall the cowl cover following the SI procedure "Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement".

10. Install new BCM and program.
