Notice: Use J 36850 or equivalent during assembly in order to retain checkballs or to lubricate components. Lubricants other than the recommended assembly lube changes the transmission fluid characteristics and causes undesirable shift conditions or filter clogging.

Important:: When assembling the transmission, do not use any O-ring, gaskets or seals that have been removed.

Inspect the case (101) for the following:

    • Cracks or porosity
    • Case to control valve body face for damage
    • Interconnected fluid passages for damage
    • The servo bore for:
       - Sharp edges
       - Porosity
    • All bolt holes for thread damage, use a Heli-coil® to repair
    • Cooler connectors for proper torque, 38 N·m (28 lb ft)
    • Ring grooves for damage
    • Clutch plate lug for wear or damage
    • Band retaining pins for good retention
    • Detent valve bore for scoring or scratches
    • Modulator valve bore for scoring or scratches
