For 1990-2009 cars only
- Remove the oil filter housing cover (if possible).
- Clean the oil pan mating surface.
- Clean the oil pan. Remove all the sludge and the oil deposits.
- Inspect the threads for the engine oil drain plug.
- Inspect the oil pan for cracking near the pan rail and the transmission mounting points.
- Inspect the oil pan for cracking resulting from impact or flying road debris.
- Repair or replace the oil pan as necessary.
- Install the oil filter housing cover (if possible).
Important: Some oil filter housing covers are stamped in and are not able to be removed.
Tighten
Tighten the oil filter housing cover to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
