Front Fender Wheel Opening Molding Replacement Model
Tools Required
J25070 Heat Gun
Removal Procedure
- Remove the push pin retainer at the rear
of the molding that secures the molding to the rocker panel retainer.
- Remove the 7 screws that secure the wheel opening molding
to the fender.
- Remove the molding.
| Important: Do not scratch the paint.

3.1. | Heat the molding using a J25070. |
Hold the heat gun approximately 15 cm (6 in) from the
surface.
Apply heat using a circular motion for approximately 30 seconds.
3.2. | Peel the molding from the panel surface using a flat-bladed tool. |
3.3. | Remove all adhesive from the fender and the back of the molding
using a 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07501
(or equivalent). |
3.4. | Clean the fender using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha. |
Installation Procedure
- Ensure the painted fender surface in
the tape contact areas are clean and dry.
- Position the front wheel opening molding to the front fender.
- Install the first screw into the hole marked BE.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the remaining 6 screws in order to secure the molding
to the fender.
Tighten
Tighten the molding screws to XX N·m (XX lb in).
Important: Do not touch the adhesive backing.
- Install the adhesive tape backing.
5.1. | Warm the body panel using a heat lamp or a heat gun to a minimum
of 21°C (70°F). |
5.2. | Peel the backing from the front end of the molding. |
5.3. | Press the molding to the fender while removing the backing. |
5.4. | Hand roll the molding to the fender in order to ensure proper
adhesion. |
- Install one pushpin retainer through the slot at the rear of the
front wheel opening molding into the hole at the front of the rocker retainer.
