Rear Panel Molding Replacement Model

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the license plate.
  2. Remove the license lamp. Refer to License Plate Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

    3. Object Number: 621025 Size: SH
  3. Use a heat gun in a circular motion for XX seconds XX mm (X in) from the surface in order to heat the upper edge of the rear body panel molding to XX-XX°C (XX-XX°F).

    4. Object Number: 621035 Size: SH
  4. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to peel the upper edge of the rear body panel molding from the surface.

    5. Object Number: 621079 Size: SH
  5. Pull the upper edge of the rear body panel molding out, in order to release the retainers.
  6. Remove the rear body panel molding from the endgate.

    7. Object Number: 321645 Size: SH
  7. Remove all adhesive from the endgate using 3M™ ScotchBrite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07501 or equivalent.
  8. Clean the endgate surface using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha and allow to air dry.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The rear body panel molding is attached to the endgate with adhesive tape at the upper edge. In order to ensure a good replacement of new or old moldings the endgate surface should be warm XX-XX°C (XX-XX°F), clean, and free of any wax or oily film.

  1. Wash the endgate with soap and water and wipe dry, then wipe the door panel with a clean rag using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha and allow to air dry.

    2. Object Number: 621021 Size: SH
  2. Use a heat gun in a circular motion for XX seconds XXX mm (X in) from the surface in order to heat the upper edge of the endgate to XX-XX°C (XX-XX°F).
  3. Position the lower flange of the rear body panel molding to the hem flange of the endgate, pulling upward and forward to align the retainer clips to the holes in the endgate.
  4. Remove the protective liner from the back side of the rear body panel molding.
  5. Position the upper edge of the rear body panel molding retainer clips to the holes in the endgate.
  6. Install the retainer clips to the endgate by pressing in until fully seated.
  7. Install the upper edge of the rear body panel molding by applying pressure to the entire length of the molding starting at the center and working outward in order to ensure a maximum bond to the endgate.
  8. Install the license lamp. Refer to License Plate Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  9. Install the license plate.
