Front Side Door Molding Replacement Model
Removal Procedure
Important: If using a flat-bladed tool, protect the surrounding surfaces. Do not
scratch the paint.
- Starting at the rear of the door, use a braided wire or a thin flat-bladed
tool inserted between the molding and the sheet metal in order to split the
foam tape.
- Remove the molding from the door.
- Remove the old adhesive from the panel and molding (if reusing)
using 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984, or the equivalent.
Important: Do not use rotating adhesive removal discs on moldings. The rotating
discs generate excessive heat. Excessive heat may cause molding to distort.
- Use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984, or the equivalent,
in order to remove the old adhesive from the panel and the molding (if reusing).
Use 3M Scotch-Brite Adhesive Removal Discs on the body panels.
Installation Procedure
- If reusing the molding, apply new adhesive
to the molding.
- Align the molding using the locator pins.
- Remove the backing from the tape.
Important: Wear clean gloves or use a clean towel while performing this step.
- Align the molding.
- Press the molding to the door.
Assure proper wetout of the adhesive by applying heavy hand pressure
against the molding at the upper and the lower tape locations. Rub along the entire
length of the molding.
