Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • [ADD LINK - J 28467 ] Universal Engine Support Fixture
    • [ADD LINK - J 39580] Engine Frame Dolly

    Object Number: 333115  Size: SH
  1. Install the [ADD LINK - J 28467] to support the engine.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to [ADD LINK] in General Information.
  3. Remove the front tires and wheels. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.
  4. Remove the stabalizer shaft. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.
  5. Remove the bolts retaining the rack and pinion to the engine frame.
  6. Separate the ball joints from the steering knuckle. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.
  7. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Body Front End.
  8. Remove the brake pressure modulator valve. Refer to [ADD LINK] in ABS Brakes.

  10. Disconnect the real time dampening sensor links from the lower control arm ball studs.
  11. Remove both A.I.R. Pump Assemblies. Refer to [ADD LINK] and in Engine Controls. [Check specific vehicle for multiple air pumps].

  12. Object Number: 460601  Size: SH
  13. Remove the rack and pinion heat shield fasteners (1) in order to remove rack and pinion heat shield (2) to the vehicle.

  14. Object Number: 460600  Size: SH
  15. Remove the brackets (2) retaining the power steering line (1) at the frame.
  16. Remove the retainer clips (3) retaining the poser steering line (4) along the left side of the engine frame.
  17. Important:  Using mechanics wire, support the rack and pinion to the body.

  18. Lower vehicle until engine frame rests on suitable jack stands or the [ADD LINK] Engine Frame Dolly.

  19. Object Number: 105510  Size: SH
  20. Remove the fastener securing the front engine mount to the engine frame.

  21. Object Number: 154973  Size: SH
  22. Remove the fasteners retaining the rear transaxle mount (1) to the engine frame.

  23. Object Number: 105376  Size: SH
  24. Remove the engine frame insulator bolts (3) retaining the engine frame (2) to the vehicle.
  25. Raise the vehicle away from the engine frame.
  26. If you replace the engine frame, remove the frame insulators. Refer to [ADD LINK].
  27. Remove the control arms. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the control arms. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.
  2. If you replaced the engine frame, install the engine frame insulators. Refer to [ADD LINK].
  3. Lower the vehicle onto the engine frame.

  4. Object Number: 105376  Size: SH
  5. Using dowel pins in the alignment holes (1), align the engine frame (2) with the vehicle.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the engine frame insulator fasteners (3) in order to secure the engine frame (2) to the vehicle.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the retainers to 191 N·m (141 lb. ft.)

  9. Raise the vehicle away from the jack stands supporting the engine frame.

  10. Object Number: 154973  Size: SH
  11. Install the fasteners in order to secure the rear transaxle mount (1) to the bracket.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 50 N·m (37 lb. ft.).


    Object Number: 105510  Size: SH
  13. Install the fastener in order to secure the front engine mount to the engine frame.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the fastener to 41 N·m (30 lb. ft.).

  15. Install the fasteners in order to secure the rack and pinion to the engine frame.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 120 N·m (89 lb. ft.).

  17. Install the bracket (2) to retain the power steering line (1) at the engine frame.
  18. Install the retainer clips (3) retaining power steering line (4) along engine frame rail.

  19. Object Number: 460601  Size: SH
  20. Install the rack and pinion heat shield (2) to the vehicle.
  21. Install the fasteners (1) in order to secure the rack and pinion heat shield (2) to the rack and pinion.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb. in.).

  23. Install both A.I.R. Pumps to the vehicle. Refer to [ADD LINK] and [ADD LINK] in Engines Controls. [Check specific vehicle for multiple A.I.R. pump usage].
  24. Install the brake pressure modulator valve. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) Replacement in ABS Brakes.
  25. Install the real time dampening sensor links to the lower control arm ball studs.
  26. Install the front air deflector. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Body Front End.
  27. Connect the ball joints to the steering knuckle. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.
  28. Install the front tires and wheels. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.
  29. Install the stabalizer shaft. Refer to [ADD LINK] in Front Suspensions.

  30. Object Number: 333115  Size: SH
  31. Remove the [ADD LINK], supporting the engine.
  32. Lower the vehicle.
  33. Perform the alignment check. Refer to [ADD LINK].
