J 45878 Combustible Gas Detector

Removal Procedure

    Caution: The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) system operates at pressures up to 24820 kpa (3600 psi). Relieve the CNG fuel system pressure before servicing CNG fuel system components in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury.

  1. Relieve the CNG fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator and duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement in the Engine Controls section of the J Platform Service Manual.
  3. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  6. Remove the fuel feed hose hold-down nut (4) and retainer (2) from the regulator.
  7. Remove the fuel hose (1) from the regulator with a twisting motion.

  9. Support the fuel rail flange (1) with a back-up wrench (2) while loosening the fuel hose (3) with another wrench.

  11. Remove the fuel feed hose (3, 4) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fuel feed hose (3, 4) into the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 945910  Size: SH
  3. Install the fuel feed hose (1) at the regulator using a new O-ring. Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly or the equivalent.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the fuel hose retainer (3) and the hold-down nut (4).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  7. Support the fuel rail flange (1) with a back-up wrench (2) while tightening the fuel hose (3) with a torque wrench and crowfoot.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel line fitting to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  11. Install the air cleaner outlet resonator and duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement in the Engine Controls section of the J Platform Service Manual.
  12. Start the engine. Inspect for CNG fuel leaks at each serviced fitting using the J 45878 .
