SMU - SEC. 6E IGNITION TIMING SETTING PROCEDURE

SUBJECT: IGNITION TIMING SETTING PROCEDURE

MODEL and YEAR: 1992-93 GEO METRO

Steps 8 and 9 listed under the 1992 model year heading in this service bulletin replace Steps 8 and 9 on Page 6E2-C4-3 in the 1992 Geo Metro Service Manual (ST370-92).

Steps 9 through 11 listed under the 1993 model year heading in this service bulletin replace Steps 9 through 11 on page 6E2-C4-3 in the 1993 Geo Metro Service Manual (ST370-93).

Whenever it becomes necessary to check the ignition timing, the steps in this service bulletin should be used in conjunction with the remaining steps in the Service Manual.

1992 Geo Metro Model Year

8. Check timing. It should be 5 degree +/- 1 degree at specified idle. Refer to Vehicle Emission Control Information Label.

9. If not within specification, loosen distributor flange bolts and rotate distributor and repeat until timing is within specifications. After timing is within specifications, remove the jumper from the duty check coupler and make sure that the timing advances according to engine speed.

1993 Geo Metro Model Year

9. Check timing. It should be 5 degree +/- 1 degree at specified idle. Refer to Vehicle Emission Control Information Label.

10. If not within specification, loosen distributor flange bolts and rotate distributor and repeat until timing is within specifications.

11. Remove the jumper from the duty check DLC and make sure that the timing advances according to engine speed.
