REVISION: 08/26/95
THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO ADD THE 1993 AND 1995 MODEL YEARS AND TO CLARIFY THE TIMING GEAR INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. PLEASE DISCARD BULLETIN 436101 (GROUP REFERENCE 6 - ENGINE).
********************************************************************** SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE **********************************************************************
A RUNNING PRODUCTION CHANGE WAS MADE TO THE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR WHICH NECESSITATES AN ADDITIONAL PROCEDURE. IF THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT FOLLOWED, SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VALVETRAIN OR PISTONS COULD RESULT.
THE CAMSHAFT GEAR ON THIS VEHICLE CAN HAVE EITHER A SOLID OR SPOKED INTERIOR. IF THE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR IS A SOLID DESIGN, DISREGARD THIS PROCEDURE.
WHEN INSTALLING THE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR, IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THERE ARE TWO (2) REFERENCE POINTS AND ONE (1) TIMING MARK. WHEN PROPERLY INSTALLED, THE CAMSHAFT PULLEY PIN SHOULD ENGAGE WITH CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR SLOT NO. 1. THIS WILL PLACE THE TIMING MARK AND REFERENCE MARK "A" AT ABOUT THE EIGHT O'CLOCK POSITION, AND REFERENCE MARK "B" WILL BE ALIGNED WITH THE "V" MARK ON CYLINDER HEAD COVER (FIGURE 1).
REFER TO SECTION 6A1 "TIMING BELT AND TENSIONER" FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION OF TIMING BELT.
