Cleaning Procedure
Notice: Do not place the following components in a solvent or cleaner bath:
• | The Throttle Position (TP) sensor |
• | The fuel pressure regulator diaphragm assembly |
• | Any other components containing rubber or electrical parts |
Do not soak the TBI unit with these components attached. Keep the soaking
time in the cleaner to a minimum if the TBI unit requires cleaning. Follow
these instructions in order to avoid damage to the TBI unit and component
parts.
| Important: Use only Carbon X (X-55) or an equivalent cold immersion cleaner
for soaking the throttle body fuel injection (TBI) unit assemblies.
|
• | Soak the metal parts of the TBI assemblies in a cleaner bath if necessary. |
• | Remove any dirt or burns from the fuel and air passages in the
TBI assemblies. |
| Caution: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air in order to prevent eye
injury.
|
• | Dry all metal components with compressed air. |
• | Clean the passages and the fuel injector chamber with compressed
air. |
Inspection Procedure
• | Inspect the casting mating surfaces for damage that will affect
proper gasket sealing. |
• | Inspect the throttle valve and throttle shaft for free and smooth
movement. |
• | Inspect the fuel injector inlet filter for dirt or damage. If
dirt is present check for foreign materials in the fuel pipes and the fuel
tank. Repair as necessary. |
