Perform the following steps in order to properly repair a leak:

  1. Identify the leak.
  2. Trace the leak to the leak's source.
  3. Determine the cause of the leak.

For example, if a case component mating surface is damaged, resealing the case component will not repair the leak. The damaged mating surface must be repaired or replaced. Inspect for and correct conditions that may cause a transaxle oil leak before attempting to repair a leak. The following conditions may cause a transaxle oil leak:

Important: The Suzuki 5-speed manual transaxle does not use gaskets in order to seal major case components. Use GM P/N 12346240 or the equivalent where applicable.

    • Excessive fluid level
    • A plugged breather hole
    • Improperly torqued fasteners
    • Dirty or damaged fastener threads
    • Warped flanges
    • Mating surfaces that exhibit the following conditions:
       - Warping
       - Scratches
       - Burrs
       - Other damage
    • Insufficient or excessive amounts of sealer
    • Cracking or porosity of the component
    • Improper sealant use where applicable
    • A damaged seal bore
    • A damaged or worn seal
    • Drive axle surfaces that exhibit the following conditions:
       - Scratches
       - Nicks
       - Other damage
    • A loose or worn bearing causing excessive seal wear
