In a major transaxle failure where particles of metal or
engine coolant has been carried with the fluid throughout the transaxle and
its fluid cooling system, it will be necessary to flush out the fluid cooler
and its connecting hoses.
Use the following procedure in order to flush out the fluid cooler and
the hoses:
- Disconnect both cooler hoses (1,2) at their clamps
at the top of the transaxle.
- Place a hose over the end of the fluid cooler inlet hose (from
the bottom of the cooler) and insert the hose into an empty container.
- Use a fluid suction gun in order to flush clean solvent or the
equivalent through the return hose from the bottom of the cooler.
Continue to flush clean solvent through the return hose until the until
clean solvent comes through the hose that is attached to the inlet hose.
This process will back flush the fluid cooler.
- Remove the hose from the cooler inlet hose and place it on the
return hose.
- Use the fluid suction gun in order to flush clean solvent or the
equivalent through the inlet hose.
Continue to flush clean solvent through the inlet hose until the clean
solvent comes through the hose attached to the return hose.
- Apply compressed air to the return hose in order to remove the
remaining solvent from the fluid cooler.
Flush the fluid cooler with transmission fluid.
- Reconnect the fluid cooler hoses to the cooler lines at the top
of the transaxle.
