Removal Procedure
- Remove 6 screws from the console.
- Remove the center console from the vehicle.
- Remove the rear console from the vehicle.
- Remove 2 screws and the selector lever knob (1)
from the selector lever (6).
- Remove 2 screws and the manual selector cover (12) from
the selector lever.
- Unsnap the shifter plate, while moving up towards the selector knob,
disconnect the indicator light.
- Remove the front carpet retainers and pull back the carpet.
- Remove one retaining clip and the shift select cable from the transaxle
retaining bracket.
- Remove one nut and the shift select cable from the manual shift lever.
- Remove two bolts from the bulkhead grommet and the
shift select cable (3) out of the bulkhead from the transaxle side.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the shift select cable (3) and the grommet through the bulkhead.
Secure the cable with 2 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bulkhead grommet bolts to 20 N·m
(15 lb ft).
- Connect the shift select cable to the manual shift lever (4).
Secure the cable with one nut.
- Install the shift select cable into the transaxle retaining bracket.
Secure with one retaining clip.
- Adjust the adjustment nut (3) by hand until
the nut contacts the manual shift select cable joint.
- Tighten the adjustment nut (1) with an open end wrench until the
nut is jammed against the manual shift select cable joint.
- Route the shift select cable under the carpet to the selector assembly.
- Refit and reposition the carpet.
- Install the front carpet retainers and secure the carpet.
- Apply lithium grease GM P/N 1051344 to the
shift select cable clevis pin.
- Connect the shift select cable to the selector lever. Secure the cable
with the clevis pin and the retainer clip.
- Install the manual selector cover (12) to the selector lever (6) .
Secure the cover with 2 screws.
- Install the manual selector cover illumination lamp bulb socket to the
cover.
- Install the console into the vehicle. Secure the console with 6 screws.

- Connect the selector lever knob to the selector lever. Secure the knob
with 2 screws.
- Inspect the shift select cable using the following procedure:
• | With the ignition switch in the OFF position and the selector lever in
the P position, attempt to manually push the vehicle. The vehicle should
not move. |
• | Verify that the vehicle cannot be driven in the N position. |
• | Verify that the vehicle can be driven in the D, 2, and L positions. |
• | Verify that the vehicle can reverse drive in the R position. |
- Install the rear console into the vehicle.
- Install the center console into the vehicle.
- Install the 6 screws into the console (1,2,3,4,5,6).
