Shift Cables Cable

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the lever knob and the boot.
  3. Remove the front and the rear center console halves.
  4. Remove the center air duct.
  5. Remove the shift cable retainer and the end clips at the control assembly.
  6. Remove the shift cable hold down bracket.
  7. Remove the 4 shift control mounting bolts.
  8. Remove the control assembly.
  9. Remove the shift cable retainers at the transaxle.
  10. Remove the shift cables by pulling them through the inside of the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shift cables by going through the inside of the vehicle.
  2. Install the shift cable retainers at the transaxle.
  3. Install the control assembly.
  4. Install the 4 shift control mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the control mounting bolts to 12 N·m(106 lb in

  6. Install the shift cable hold down bracket.
  7. Install the shift cable retainer with the end clips at the control assembly.
  8. Install the center air duct.
  9. Install the front and rear center console halves.
  10. Install the boot and the lever knob.
  11. Install the negative battery cable.

Shift Cables Gear Shift Guide Case

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Electrical
  2. Disconnect the shift cables.
  3. Remove the 4 gear shift guide case bolts.
  4. Remove the gear shift guide case.
  5. Remove the gasket.
  6. Remove the 2 gear shift guide case bracket bolts.
  7. Important: When removing the shifting bracket notice that there is a select lever bushing and that it must be replaced in its original position that it came in or incorrect shifting may accure.

  8. Remove the gear shift guide bracket.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the gear shift guide bracket and the 2 bolts.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 16 N·m(12 lb ft)

  3. Install the gear shift guide case gasket.
  4. Install the gear shift guide case and the 4 bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the gear shift guide case bolts to 20 N·m(14 lb ft)

  6. Connect the shift cables.
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Electrical.
