    • J 28467-330 Support Fixture Adapter
    • J 28467-89 Engine Support Fixture Adapter

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Flush the transmission. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Flushing.
  3. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement.
  4. Remove the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector from IAT sensor.
  5. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) cover and the ACL filter from the ACL.
  6. Loosen the ACL intake tube clamp.
  7. Remove the 3 bolts and ACL from the vehicle.

  9. Remove the PNP switch electrical connector (1) from the PNP switch.
  10. Remove the 1 bolt and ground strap from the transaxle case.

  12. Loosen the TV cable locknut and adjust the nut.
  13. Remove the TV cable from the throttle linkage and TV cable bracket (1).
  14. Remove the VSS electrical connector from the VSS.
  15. Remove the 1 nut, the 1 lock washer and shift select cable from the manual lever.

  17. Remove the E-clip (1) and the shift select cable (3) from the shift select cable bracket (2).
  18. Remove the 1 bolt and TV cable guide bracket from the transaxle case.
  19. Remove the 2 upper transaxle-to-engine bolts from the transaxle.
  20. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.

  22. Install the J 28467-A
  23. Remove the 2 bolts and the left transaxle mounting bracket reinforcement from the transaxle.
  24. Remove 1 bolt from the left transaxle mounting bracket.
  25. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  26. Place a drain pan or a suitable container under the transaxle.

  28. Remove the transaxle drain plug (2) from the transaxle fluid pan (1) and drain the transaxle fluid.
  29. Remove the differential filler plug from the differential cover at the rear of the transaxle.
  30. Remove the differential drain plug from the transaxle case under the differential cover and drain the transaxle fluid from the differential.

  32. Remove the 12 bolts, right and left splash shields (1) from the vehicle.
  33. Important: Plug the fluid cooler hoses in order to prevent transaxle fluid cooler leakage.

  34. Remove the 2 hose clamps and 2 fluid cooler hoses from the inner and the outer fluid cooler pipes at the transaxle.
  35. Remove the 2 bolts from the left transaxle mounting bracket.
  36. Remove both front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels
  37. Remove the right and left drive axles from the vehicle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
  38. Remove the 2 bolts from the front transaxle mount.
  39. Remove the 3 nuts from the rear transaxle mount.
  40. Remove the front suspension crossmember and the center crossmember from the vehicle. Refer to Crossmember Replacement - Front Suspension.
  41. Support the transaxle with a suitable hydraulic jack.
  42. Remove the 5 bolts and lower the engine reinforcement brace from the engine and transaxle.
  43. Remove the flywheel access cover from the engine rear end plate.
  44. Remove the 6 flywheel-to-torque converter bolts from the flywheel.
  45. Remove the drain pan from underneath the transaxle fluid pan.
  46. Remove the 2 lower transaxle-to-engine bolts from the transaxle.
  47. Remove the transaxle from the engine by carefully moving the transaxle away from the engine toward the left side of the engine compartment. Very slowly lower the hydraulic jack, verifying that no obstructions exist.
