Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the 6 bolts and the left splash shield from the vehicle.
  3. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the transaxle fluid pan.
  4. Remove the transaxle drain plug and drain the transaxle fluid.
  5. Remove the 15 transaxle fluid pan bolts the fluid pan and the fluid pan gasket.
  6. Remove the 5 manual valve body bolts.
  7. Remove the detent spring.
  8. Remove the manual valve body.
  9. Remove the manual valve. Check for cracks or damage. Replace if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the manual valve into manual valve body.
  2. Install the detent spring.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the manual valve body and 5 manual valve body bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Install the fluid pan gasket, the fluid pan and the 15 fluid pan bolts.
  7. Install the new fluid pan gasket, the fluid pan. Secure the items with the 15 bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle fluid pan bolts to 4.9 N·m (43 lb in).

  9. Tighten the transaxle drain plug to the transaxle fluid pan.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle drain plug to 49 N·m (36 lb ft).

  11. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  12. Install the left splash shield and the 6 left splash shields bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the 6 bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Refill the transaxle fluid as necessary.
