CARPET MAY PULL FROM KICK PAD AREA (APPLY ADHESIVE)

Model and Year: 1986-88 SPECTRUM

Some of the subject vehicles may exhibit a condition where the carpet becomes detached from the "kick-pad" area and is pulled out from behind the "kick-pad".

This condition results from an insufficient amount of carpet behind the kick pad for the kick pad to provide the necessary retention. This condition is aggravated when the carpet does not conform to the floor contour in the footwell area. Pressure in the footwell area on the carpet causes the carpet to be pulled away from the kick-pad.

Current production vehicles beginning with VIN J7519137 incorporate carpets with greater "underlap" to the kick-pad as well as improved conformity with the floor contour.

Corrective action for vehicles exhibiting the described condition is as follows:

Remove kick-pad and carpet retainer, peel back carpet.

Apply carpet adhesive to underside of loose carpet and top side of underlay following adhesive manufacturers instructions.

Reinstall carpet and kick-pad.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
