FRONT SEATBACK COVER SPLITS - NEW COVERS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-86 Spectrum and Sunburst 'R' Car - 2 Door Hatchback

Some 1985-86 'R' car 2 door hatchback vehicles with VIN serial numbers prior to G8426350 may experience a split in the front seatback cover.

When this split occurs, it is usually found at the seam joining the front of the cover to the side adjacent to the driver's or passenger's door. This condition is caused by stitching pulling through the side material due to the tension applied to this area as the occupant enters the vehicle prior to sitting on the seat.

On complaint vehicles, the seat back cover should be replaced using the appropriate part number listed. These new parts utilize a thicker material in the affected area permitting greater stitching retention.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
