LICENSE PLATE INSTALLATION MEASUREMENTS FOR LOCATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987 'R' CAR

On some 1987 Spectrum and Sunburst models, Dealers may find the drill dimples for the front license plate attaching holes missing on the front bumper. These dimples are in process of being added in production, however, in the mean time, Dealers can drill the holes by following these directions.

Running across the bumper is a break-line (groove). Measure 6 mm (1/4 in.) down from this break-line on the centre-line of the bumper. Drill two 5.5 mm (7/32 in.) holes 178 mm (7 in.) apart (equidistant about the centre of the bumper). The centre of the bumper can be determined by the grille bars moulded into the bumper.

NOTE: Only drill approximately 3.17 iftm (1/8 in.) deep or just through the face. Too large a drill or off location will damage ttie two plastic sleeves moulded onto the bumper at these locations which pick up the self tapping mounting screws. It is suggested that the Dealer drill small pilot holes at these locations, prior to drilling the 5.5 mm (7/32 in.) holes, to ensure he is inside the sleeve.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
