GRINDING NOISE FROM RR. BRAKES P/N FOR NEW LINING

GRINDING NOISE FROM REAR BRAKES

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-88 "R" CAR ------------------

Some of the subject vehicles may exhibit a grinding noise during the first few brake applications after the vehicle has been parked for approximately 6 hours or more.

This condition may be variously described as a grinding or rubbing noise and is more common during damp weather conditions and after extended parking periods. The noise disappears after the first few brake applications, however, this number will vary depending upon the weather, length of time parked and type of brake usage. Corrective action for this condition is to replace the rear brake shoe assemblies with new parts which incorporate a changed lining material.

The above part quantities comprise 1 vehicle set.

These parts are to be installed following service manual procedures.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
